Google has been able to profit from allowing people
to post ads on their search engine for quite a while. People use AdWords to promote
their businesses, products, and services to the public. Each time a search is
made, the key words in the search are paired with ads that will relate to it. Depending
on how close the key words and the ad match up, the ads will be ranked and
ordered for the viewer to see. This whole process is called Ad Auction. Like
any traditional auction, bids are an important part of the process. However,
the quality of the ads and how many people visit the site. Even if your bid is
higher, your ad might not show because of another ads’ clicking rate and the
quality.
To get the ball rolling, you’ll need to come up with
keywords or phrases for your advertisement. They need to extremely relevant to
the product or service and nothing general or broad. For instance, say you’re
using Google to promote your Ice Cream business. By using keywords such as “delicious
ice cream shop” instead of “ice cream,” you are able to broaden people’s
searches and improve the ads’ chances of being seen.
To further understand what key words to use, it is
also a good idea to understand and build an online advertising vocabulary and
search phrases. Google has a webpage to more about adwords. This site might
even help you.
